Alicia Phillips, a native of Lincoln with deep ties to the community and who was brought up on the importance of serving her neighbors, joined Civic Nebraska on July 1 as Collective Impact Lincoln‘s new program manager.
A partnership between Civic Nebraska, Nebraska Appleseed, and the South of Downtown Community Development Organization, Collective Impact Lincoln creates resident-led investment and positive change in the city’s core neighborhoods. Through canvassing, events, and training, the partnership helps neighbors examine their communities’ strengths and identify new ways to improve. Specifically, Collective Impact Lincoln focuses on the Belmont, Clinton, Everett, Hartley, Near South, and University Place neighborhoods.
Alicia grew up in the Near South Neighborhood with her parents and sisters. She learned early on from her mother about the importance of being connected to her community, and through watching her help women navigate local resources and providing a safe haven for those who needed it. Alicia’s upbringing inspired her to walk in her mother’s footsteps by giving back to others.
“I’m excited to make new community connections, and to identify, develop, and uplift the voices of new leaders in our city’s core neighborhoods,” she said.
Alicia earned a bachelor’s degree in human relations from Doane University in 2019. She focused her studies on multicultural counseling, ethnic and women’s studies, and political science. Before coming to Civic Nebraska, Alicia was associate director at Hudson Bay Co. in Lincoln. She also has extensive experience in educating, organizing, and fundraising around a range of issues for a number of nonprofit organizations.
Alicia lives with her son, their dog Oreo, and guinea pig Gruesel. In her free time, she is an avid reader and book collector. She also enjoys watching documentaries, hanging out with her family, and seeing live music. She succeeds Nancy Petitto, who was promoted in May to Director of Civic Health Programs at Civic Nebraska.
