Who builds civic life in your community? Tell us about them and their work, and they could be honored on April 29 at Civic Nebraska’s Strengthening Democracy Awards celebration.

Each spring, Civic Nebraska highlights active community-builders across our state. These can be Nebraskans of all ages whose everyday actions empower others and build up their community and our state. Enter your 2021 nomination(s) today with this form. Civic Nebraska will be accepting nominations until 5 pm CDT on March 31.

Our 2021 winners will be announced April 12. This year’s honorees will receive an elegant keepsake award and will be featured during our virtual Strengthening Democracy awards program on April 29.

Award categories for 2021 are:

Outstanding Educator – a Nebraska K-12 teacher who embodies the values of community, innovation, empowerment, and optimism.

Outstanding Community Partner – an organization or individual that builds partnerships to build a modern and robust democracy.

Outstanding Administration – a behind-the-scenes administrator whose work betters their community.

Outstanding Civic Health Partner – a person or group who works to fortify civic health in their community.

Outstanding Youth Engagement Program – an organization that helps build the next generation of young civic leaders.

Outstanding Student Leaders – K-12 students who exhibit civic leadership and engagement.

Defender of Democracy – a voting-rights advocate who fights for access to the ballot.

Civic Nebraska hosts Strengthening Democracy Awards each spring because a modern and robust democracy does not build itself. It takes dedicated citizens of all ages working together to strengthen our civic institutions. Through our Strengthening Democracy Awards, we lift up and recognize civic leaders – official and unofficial, young and old – and their efforts.

Strengthening Democracy 2021 also will feature a keynote address from Eric Liu, co-founder of Citizen University. Liu, a national thought leader in building powerful and responsible citizens, is the bestselling author of several books, including his most recent, Become America: Civic Sermons on Love, Responsibility, and Democracy. RSVP for this virtual event today!
