DARE MIGHTY THINGS: Our 2022-23 annual report

Democracy requires people’s vigilance, faith, and courage to persist. Backed by supporters like you, Civic Nebraska leads the defense of democracy in the Cornhusker State.

by
At the end of a long election year, it’s tempting to take the results of the recent vote in Nebraska and around the country and add my thoughts about what I believe they all mean. But the truth is, the future of our state and country has never hinged on a single election, and that remains true today. At Civic Nebraska, we believe what everyone does after the votes are counted is just as important as what happens on Election Day.
Along the way, we’re reminded that America is a balancing act – an experiment of necessary tension. Creating, sustaining, and expanding democracy means threading the needle between rivalry and consensus, between the competition for power and the need for compromise, and between partisan differences and the common good.
This is what Civic Nebraska practices and advances every day. With your support, we empower Nebraskans to commit their whole selves to our democracy – to join, advocate, discuss, serve, and share their voices in shaping their communities, their environment, and the decisions that affect their lives.
Our 2022-23 annual report, Dare Mighty Things, highlights our audacious outlook as we continue building a modern, robust democracy for all Nebraskans. I invite you to celebrate Civic Nebraska’s progress in the past year and also to get a glimpse of where we are headed in 2023 and beyond.
Together, we are facing a momentous test of American resolve. But this test isn’t new. Generations before us in times of war and strife and unrest also asked: Should this go on, this thing of ours? Can we push past our fears and take up the work to remake America again? Can we, as a people, still make this nation what it was meant to be?
If you’re reading this, you know the answers to these questions. You understand what it takes to get there: Audacity. Resolve. Courage. And most of all, you share in our willingness to dare mighty things.
Thank you for your support. We hope you enjoy this look back, as well as what’s ahead, and that you consider renewing your support for our democracy-building initiatives.

Best,

Adam Morfeld, J.D.
Executive Director
