Hello, Nebraska! Are you ready to experience the heartbeat of democracy right in your own backyard? From the Panhandle to the Missouri River, get ready to be inspired, engaged, and empowered at Civic Saturdays – the ultimate celebration of community, connection, and citizenship.
What’s Civic Saturday? It’s not just an event; it’s a movement. Imagine a space where people from all walks of life gather to explore what it means to be an active participant in our democracy. It’s a place where voices are heard, ideas are shared, and connections are made. Whether you’re a seasoned activist or just dipping your toes into civic engagement, Civic Saturdays welcome everyone with open arms.
From Feb. 6-9, Citizen University, which originated Civic Saturdays eight years ago, joined forces with Civic Nebraska to form the Nebraska Civic Saturday Fellowship. It began with a four-day training to teach the philosophies and practicalities of putting on these unique gatherings in their Nebraska communities. Our “Cornhusker Cohort” of civic catalysts came from communities around the state, including Scottsbluff, Columbus, Lincoln, and Omaha – and in one case,  from Washington, D.C.! – and now join nearly 300 Fellows around the nation who have mastered the art of convening their communities.
In 2024, here’s what you can expect at a Nebraska Civic Saturday near you:
›› Engaging speakers: From local leaders to community activists, a lineup of speakers will inspire and ignite your passion for change.
›› Uplifting performances: Get ready to be moved by music, poetry, and art that celebrate the diversity and creativity of our community.
›› Thought-provoking discussions: Dive deep into meaningful conversations about issues that matter.
›› Reflection and connection: Take a moment to pause, reflect, and connect with your fellow neighbors as we explore what it means to be active, powerful, character-filled citizens in today’s polarized and over-politicized world.
In the coming months, Civic Nebraska will support and assist the new Fellows in bringing Civic Saturday to their communities. If you’ve been a part of Civic Nebraska’s gatherings since 2019, you know that Civic Saturday is not just a one-time event – it’s about building a movement of positive connection in a world that can too often feel disconnected and isolating. At Civic Saturdays, every voice matters and every heart is welcome – together, we’re shaping the future of Nebraska, one Saturday at a time.
See you soon, citizens!
