Jan Benitez of Omaha has joined Civic Nebraska as our evaluation and program development manager. In his new role, Jan ensures compliance with all internal and external program standards and promotes continuous quality improvement for all three of our program areas – Youth Civic Leadership, Civic Health, and Voting Rights. He began his duties July 29.

Jan (pronounced John) is creating evaluation systems and metrics in partnership with Civic Nebraska’s program directors. He monitors effective agency-wide data collection, data analytics, and reporting systems. Also, Jan creates and coordinates training and staff development in evidence-based practices. In addition, Jan manages outcomes reporting and program compliance for all grants and contracts with the development team; and implements procedures for ensuring customer satisfaction.

Jan Benitez

A native of Honduras who immigrated to the United States when he was 9, Jan was introduced to nonprofit work in high school as a student of the Avenue Scholars Foundation. Jan credits the foundation’s support and guidance for igniting his passion to help others, which he pursued through his formal education in social work.

“My experience as an immigrant in the United States has made me value how strong communities can positively change people’s lives. I’ve made it my life’s mission to focus on developing quality programs, and I’m ready to practice my passion through this role at Civic Nebraska,” Jan said. “It’s an exciting time to join Civic Nebraska; our programs already span across different communities and we continue to grow and develop the impact we can have on more Nebraskans.”

Jan has worked and volunteered with several organizations, including Catholic Charities, OneWorld Community Health Centers, Completely KIDS and the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Greater Omaha. Through those experiences, he became aware of the profound impact that nonprofits have on people and the importance of quality programming. That led Jan to pursue a master’s degree in public administration so he can become more effective nonprofit leader.

“I’m delighted to be part of a team at Civic Nebraska that truly cares about our communities and works together in programs that affect all Nebraskans,” he said.

In his spare time, Jan enjoys playing and watching soccer – especially Tottenham Hotspurs of the English Premier League. He also enjoys traveling and trying new restaurants with his girlfriend as well as with his friends and family. Jan has a yorkie poodle named Reptar (yes, named after the dinosaur in Rugrats) who loves him unconditionally.

We are so very glad Jan is on our team. Please join us in welcoming him to Civic Nebraska – Jan is at jan.benitez@civicnebraska.org.
