On Friday, the Nebraska Legislature’s Government, Military, and Veterans Affairs Committee will convene a public hearing on both LR7 and LB451, legislation related to adding Nebraska to the list of states calling for an Article V Constitutional Convention. We expect among those in attendance to be Mark Meckler, president of Convention of States Action, an out-of-state organization that has for years been spearheading a national effort to trigger an Article V Convention.
Mr. Meckler has been to the State Capitol before — as recently as last year, when LR6, a similar piece of legislation to what is before the current Legislature, was still on the table. You may remember this video, which shares some of the changes Meckler might like to see from an Article V
That includes eliminating federal departments of energy and education, for one. And taking the election of U.S. senators out of the hands of the people, for another. And shackling federal aid to states, which would critically damage Nebraska schools, roads, bridges, and health services, just to name a few.

It’s time to defend the Constitution. Civic Nebraska will be there to voice its strong opposition to both initiatives —Â and we’re asking you to join us by adding your voice against LR7 and LB451 during the hearing.Â
