Civic Nebraska was founded on the idea that a strong democracy does not build itself — it takes dedicated people working together to create a civil and civic society. Join Civic Nebraska and hosts Alison Armstrong and Mark Scudder on Nov. 15 as we celebrate Omahans of all ages who emblemize this ideal.
Build Up Omaha 2019 will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Empire Room Omaha, 200 S. 31st Ave., Suite 4107. In addition to getting a chance to meet and learn about Omahans whose daily deeds serve to strengthen civic life in the Metro area, we’ll also hear from Karl A. Racine, the attorney general of the District of Columbia, as our keynote speaker.
Racine, who was first elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2018, focuses on preserving affordable housing, juvenile justice reform, cracking down on slumlords, holding unscrupulous employers accountable for wage theft, and protecting consumers from abusive business practices. He also speaks out for D.C. autonomy at the national level. He has worked at the D.C. Public Defender Service and was associate White House counsel to President Clinton.
You can get tickets for Civic Nebraska’s signature Omaha event today. And, if you know of an Omaha-area resident who deserves to be honored at Build Up Omaha, please nominate them here. We’re accepting nominations until Oct. 25.
We can’t wait to see you there!
