Special guest performances
Zedeka Poindexter is an Omaha-born and raised artist. She is the first and only female Omaha city slam champion. As a member of Omaha’s poetry slam team, she qualified for the semi-finals at the National Poetry Slam. Only one other team achieved this honor in its 13-year history. Her work has been published by the online literary magazine The New and Alight: Best-Loved Poems from the 2013 Women of the World Poetry Slam. In 2005 and 2013, she was nominated for an Omaha Entertainment and Arts Award in the category of slam poetry.
Matt Mason is the Nebraska State Poet. He runs poetry programming for the State Department, working in Nepal, Romania, Botswana and Belarus. He is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize for his poem “Notes For My Daughter Against Chasing Storms” and his work can be found in numerous magazines and anthologies, including Ted Kooser’s American Life in Poetry. Matt is executive director of the Nebraska Writers Collective and lives in Omaha with his wife, the poet Sarah McKinstry-Brown, and daughters Sophia and Lucia.
