Behind on Rent

This award-winning short film from Gabriella Parsons Nova charts the lives of Lincolnites who were turned away from affordable housing during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and highlights local efforts to address the local housing crisis.

Nebraska Housing Stories

In 2020-21, Nebraska organizations and students worked with national partners to design and promote new approaches to affordable homes for communities in Nebraska. The project was inspired by Evicted, a traveling exhibition highlighting the eviction crisis across America. To accompany the national narrative, Nebraska’s Housing Stories was created to highlight statewide, historic housing issues that often become less visible factors contributing to the eviction crisis. NEw Attainable House joins this locally produced exhibition to propose Nebraska-based design solutions to the housing crisis.

Barriers & Disparities: Housing in America

To promote understanding of the relationship between residential instability and poverty, this exhibition explores selected moments in the history of inequitable access to housing in America. Works by Ansel Adams, John Biggers, Gordon Parks, Louis B. Sloan, and Paul Strand are featured for their potency in helping us to consider how housing can pose larger questions about systemic injustices in our society.

Lincoln’s Affordable Housing Coordinated Action Plan

The action items identified in this official City of Lincoln document attempt to address these issues and improve the overall economic health in Lincoln and more importantly, protecting and advancing the health, safety, economic opportunity, and quality of life of every resident. This means creating housing options for all income levels and ages throughout the city.

Tenant Protection Act

On April 29, 2021, LB320 – sponsored by State Sen. John Cavanaugh, passed the Nebraska Legislature on a 43-3 vote. The law allows a tenant who is a victim of domestic violence to seek early release from a rental agreement under certain conditions. It also included several tenant-landlord reforms.
