Strengthening Democracy Awards: Outstanding Veterans Advocate

Civic Nebraska’s veterans programs focus on connecting veterans with local resources and community opportunities when they transition home from military service. Civic Nebraska’s veteran services come at an important time when veterans return home to Nebraska communities.

Jessica Jones and Fa’iz Rab are the definition of an outstanding veterans advocates and work tirelessly to ensure returning veterans have a smooth transition back to civilian life.

Fa’iz Rab is currently the AmeriCorps Program Manager for Lutheran Family Services. He works closely with Civic Nebraska and other veterans organizations to ensure that they have high quality AmeriCorps members who provide critical direct services, support, and mental health services support to returning veterans. Mr. Rab has been an outstanding program partner and often worked late nights to ensure continuity of funding and services and has always been willing to turn on a dime to ensure our programs, and veterans we serve have high quality services through the AmeriCorps Program.

Jessica Jones is the Program Director and Together Omaha which provides Emergency Resources and Navigation to families in extreme poverty to create housing stability. Ms. Jones oversees a veterans assistance program for homeless veterans in Omaha. She has supplied support, training, and facilities to Civic Nebraska VLC member and has been instrumental throughout the implementation of a new program and has shown a commitment to helping veterans in need in the Omaha area.

For their dedicated service to veterans in our communities, Jessica and Fa’iz are Civic Nebraska’s 2015 Outstanding Veterans Advocates.
