You purchased your extra-long twin sheets. You bought your books. You Facebook stalked your roommate. But have you thought about voting?
As a student in Nebraska, you have the choice to vote either at your permanent address (usually your parents home) or at your school address.
If you’re from Nebraska attending a Nebraska college that means you can either
- Re-register at your school address and vote there, or
- Request a ballot be sent from your hometown to you at college
Either of these options require a little bit of planning since Nebraska has deadlines for requesting ballots and some counties have their own application (though using the state application should work for all counties). An election office must receive your application by close of business on the 2nd Monday before the election, for this election that deadline is October 31st.
But what if I’m not from Nebraska?
First, welcome to the Good Life and enjoy a Runza!
But seriously, you too have options. You can choose to register to vote in Nebraska at your school address and vote by-mail or in-person. If you want to vote by-mail, you’ll also have to apply by October 31st for an early ballot. If you want to vote in your home state… well that could get tricky. Each state has its own rules and deadlines for early voting, but we can help!
Civic Nebraska can help you request an early ballot from your home county in Nebraska or your home state, just fill out Early Voting Assistance Form and we’ll be in touch!
