SUMMARY:The State of Civic Life Conference
DESCRIPTION:Nathan Wen Hé\, a longtime Civic Nebraska volunteer and community advocate\, has joined the organization as our new Director of Communications. \n\nIn his new role\, Nathan crafts messaging strategies for Civic Nebraska to connect the organization with Nebraskans across the state. Through strategic and innovative communications work\, he helps amplify Civic Nebraska’s mission by highlighting the impact of its work in Civic Education\, Civic Health\, and Civic Action across Nebraska communities. Nathan also helps manage Civic Nebraska’s communications channels and is the direct contact point for media requests. \n\nAs a first-generation immigrant who has called Nebraska home for more than a decade\, Nathan is deeply committed to giving back to the community that helped shape his journey. “This community is my home\,” said Hé\, “I want to help enrich the state that gave me the opportunity to grow.” \n\nAnd he has spent years doing just that. Nathan currently serves on the Lincoln Commission of Human Rights\, the board of StarCity Pride and OutNebraska\, as well as serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. All of this in addition to his 10+ years of experience volunteering in Nebraska. \n\n“Nebraska gave me the opportunity to build a life\, find community\, and grow as a person. Being able to give back by helping strengthen civic engagement across our state is deeply meaningful to me. I’ve always seen myself as a connector\, and I’m excited to help communities connect with one another\, share their stories\, and work together to build a stronger and more engaged Nebraska.” \n\nFor Nathan\, civic engagement isn’t just a profession — it’s a lifelong commitment to building stronger communities. \n\nNathan holds a master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications and has built a career across agencies\, for-profit companies\, universities\, and nonprofit organizations. In each position\, Nathan utilized multimedia to strengthen brand awareness and connection to audiences. \n\nIn his free time\, Nathan enjoys spending time with his animal family\, exploring new hobbies\, volunteering in the community\, and diving into a good book or audiobook. You can also find him experimenting with new Asian recipes in the kitchen or wandering through nature in search of the next great view. \n\nWe are thrilled to welcome Nathan to the Civic Nebraska team. Nathan can be reached at na**********@***********ka.org. \n\n
