The Idea of America

Civic Nebraska invites leaders from across the political spectrum to come together to build their understanding and skills of small-d democratic leadership. By discussing the fundamental ideas, choices, and values of government and civic life in the United States, participants will come away better-equipped for elected leadership in Nebraska.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Format

Cohorts consist of 8 to 12 Nebraskans who serve or are interested in serving in
local elected leadership. A Cohort will gather to get to know each other and participate in the conversation sessions.

Content

Famous speeches and foundational texts will guide discussions to help understand core American ideas and the arguments we continue to have today, while providing a
“neutral ground” to have open conversations.

Cost

It’s free. There are no out-of-pocket costs to participants except for their time and willingness to engage. Meals and travel reimbursement are provided.
