In July, Civic Nebraska welcomed Tanner Cano as our new executive assistant.

Tanner, a Nebraska native, manages the executive director’s schedule and travel; assists in staffing our boards; tracks, assists, and prioritizes the executive director’s tasks; and coordinates with Civic Nebraska staff for organization-wide initiatives.

“A functioning and accessible democracy is the starting point for addressing any issues within our society,” he said. “That’s why I am thrilled to work at a democracy-strengthening organization like Civic Nebraska.”

Tanner, who grew up in Gretna, graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2022 with a degree in advertising and public relations. Earlier in 2023, he was a communications coordinator with Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird’s re-election campaign, which culminated on May 2. The experience on the campaign reaffirmed Tanner’s desire to help his community and gave him a better understanding and love for the city and Nebraska as a whole.

In his spare time, Tanner enjoys spending time with friends and family, rock climbing, board and card games, fencing, and trying new hobbies.

We’re awfully glad Tanner has joined the Civic Nebraska team. Help us welcome him at tanner.cano@civicnebraska.org.
