Nicole Crumbley, a longtime educator and child advocate, is the new site director at Civic Nebraska’s Sherman Elementary Community Learning Center. Nicole began leading the Sherman CLC in late December.
As Sherman’s CLC site director, Nicole is an advocate for youth, families, and residents of Sherman’s northeast Omaha neighborhood. She oversees all aspects of our after-school experience for students and staff – including directing daily routines, activities, and educational enrichment. She also oversees direct-service programs related to after-school community programs that serve Sherman youth and families.
Nicole earned a bachelor of liberal arts degree from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma, and the University of Nebraska Omaha. She has served in a variety of public-school roles since 2007, including middle-school reading facilitator in the Read Right Program in Omaha; early childhood teacher in Kansas City; and lead Head Start teacher at Kennedy Elementary in Omaha. Nicole also was a teaching assistant with the National Youth Sports Program in 2005.
“Being a teacher, one must be able to focus on several objectives at once while at the same time being organized to see each task to completion,” Nicole said. “I take great pride in seeing that students are successful in and out of the classroom.”
When she’s not helping raise the next generation of young civic leaders, you can find Nicole enjoying time in her community. One of her favorite activities is picking apples from the apple tree in her dad’s backyard with her niece, Tulip. She also is a dedicated trivia buff and word person and enjoys playing along with contestants on Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.
“I love working with kids, and the Sherman CLC allows me to follow my passion daily,” Nicole said. “Most of all, I’m proud to be a part of Sherman’s diverse community and to foster every student’s potential.”
