Happy May Day! As you probably know, Civic Nebraska is participating in the sixth annual Omaha Gives! event on May 23. For those not familiar with the yearly event, Omaha Gives! is an online giving platform organized by the Omaha Community Foundation to grow philanthropy.
On May 23, the Omaha area will come together for 24 hours to give as much as possible to support the work of public nonprofits in the metro area. That includes Civic Nebraska, which runs five year-round after-school programs in Omaha — at Sherman Elementary, Lothrop Magnet Elementary, and Lewis & Clark Middle School. We direct our Omaha Gives! gifts to those vital after-school programs, which serve hundreds of children in the city every day.
Earlier today, the scheduled giving period for Omaha Gives! opened for all participants, which means donors can begin submitting their support to their favorite nonprofits and still have it counted on the 24-hour giving day on May 23.
We like to think of scheduled giving like early voting: It’s a way to conveniently take care of business ahead of time, to ensure your contribution counts, because you never know what events might keep you from donating on the actual day of the event. So feel free to schedule your planned gift to Civic Nebraska now through May 22. And please, if you’re so inclined, be sure join in again on May 23!
